The Holiday’s and Home Insurance Claims
During the holiday season, we see an uptick in home claims. This is typically attributed to a couple things – one of them being Christmas decorations.
Real Christmas Trees
If you have a real Christmas tree in your house, you want to make sure you keep it watered and the lights you use on it don’t get hot. As the Christmas tree starts to dry out, it can become a fire hazard. Unfortunately, there are claims every year in which the tree caught fire and caused damage to the home. Make sure when you’re decorating that you always check the lights for breaks. It’s the same thing for other Christmas decorations. They’ve been stored all year, so make sure rodents or the family pet hasn’t chewed on anything that would cause an increased fire hazard.
Special Event Policy
If you’re hosting events in your home, you may want to look into getting a special event policy. This would provide you with a little extra layer of protection to cover the event. They are fairly inexpensive – usually about $200. You can get coverage for host liquor coverage if you’re going to be serving alcohol to your guests.
Happy Holidays
These are just things to look out for on your homeowner’s insurance. We hope you have a wonderful and safe holiday season. Here at Hanby, we are here to serve you. Happy holidays!
