The Foundation: A Vision Born in 1940
On March 29, 1940, E.H. Hanby Insurance was founded by Eugene Haynes Hanby in Mesquite, Texas. This marked the beginning of what would become one of North Texas’s most trusted insurance agencies. E.H. Hanby established his company during a pivotal time in American history—just as the nation was emerging from the Great Depression and on the cusp of World War II. His vision was simple yet powerful: to provide reliable, comprehensive insurance protection to families and businesses that would be there when they needed it.
The Robinson Era
In September 1957, Bob Robinson, his son-in-law, joined the agency. This partnership would prove transformative for the company’s future. In January 1970, Bob Robinson assumed ownership of the agency. Robinson’s leadership ensured the continuity of Hanby’s founding principles while adapting to the evolving insurance landscape of the 1970s and beyond.
Community Recognition and Growth
The Hanby name became synonymous with excellence both in business and community service. On November 13, 1970, the Mesquite Independent School District renamed Skeeter Field, E.H. Hanby Stadium, to honor Mr. Hanby and his 55 years of dedication to the Mesquite Skeeter football program. This remarkable honor reflects the deep community roots that E.H. Hanby established—principles that continue to guide the agency today.
The recognition continued into the 1990s when March 29, 1990, was declared Hanby Insurance Day by the Mayor of the City of Mesquite. This proclamation celebrated fifty years of exceptional service and community partnership.
The Modern Era
Bob Robinson sold the agency to Ramey King Insurance in November 2007, marking a period of transition for the company. Ramey King owned the agency for about 5 years before selling it in December 2011 to Erin (Atkins) Neill. Under the current leadership, the agency has provided North Texas with QUALITY personal and commercial insurance coverage while maintaining the legendary customer service standards established by E.H. Hanby decades earlier.
