86 Years of Hanby Insurance: How We’ve Changed and What Never Will
This year, Hanby Insurance celebrates 86 years of serving our community! Eighty-Six years of handshakes, phone calls, policy reviews, claims assistance, and relationships built on trust. That’s multiple generations of families counting on us to protect the things they love most, their homes, their businesses, their livelihoods.
While the world around us has changed dramatically since 1940, one thing has never changed: Our heart to serve!
A Lot Has Changed Since 1940
When Hanby first opened its doors, this business ran on relationships, paper files, and patience. Agents typed policies on manual typewriters. Files lived in paper folders and lots of filing cabinets. Clients paid by check or cash, and communication was face-to-face or by letter. There was no email, texting, online portals, or e-signatures.
Fast forward to today, and it almost looks like a different world. We issue policies electronically. Clients can file claims online. We review coverage digitally, and you can reach us by phone, email, text, or by simply stopping by. Technology has made insurance faster and more efficient than the agents of 1940 could have ever imagined.
But here’s what I’ve come to understand deeply in my years in this business: technology alone isn’t what protects families and businesses. People do that. Relationships do that.
What Hasn’t Changed
For 86 years, our purpose has stayed exactly the same, to protect what matters most, to give honest advice, and to be there when something goes wrong. To treat our clients like neighbors, because you are.
Insurance isn’t just policies and paperwork. It’s helping a family rebuild after a storm. It’s guiding a business owner through a tough claim. It’s picking up the phone when someone calls in a panic and making sure they feel like they’ve reached someone who genuinely cares about the outcome, because we do!
That foundation, the idea that insurance is ultimately about people and not policies, is something we’ve never let go of. The agents and mentors who came before me understood it. I carry it with me every day. And it’s what I hope defines Hanby Insurance for the next generation, too.
Growing With Our Community
Over the years, we’ve grown. Our tools have improved. Our carrier partnerships have expanded. Our team has evolved. We’ve navigated recessions, market shifts, natural disasters, and a global pandemic. And through all of it, we’ve learned that our real value isn’t in selling a policy, it’s in being someone you can actually call when things go wrong.
What I’m most proud of more than any milestone or growth metric is that after 86 years, we are still here, still local, and still genuinely invested in the people and businesses that make up this community. Our clients aren’t account numbers. They’re people we see at church, at ball games, at the grocery store.
We’re still locally owned. We’re still relationship-driven. And we are still committed to being the agency you can count on.
Here’s to the Next Chapter
Eighty-Six years is a long time, but I don’t spend much time looking backward. What excites me is what comes next. The tools we have today allow us to serve clients better than ever, and the mission that has carried this agency since 1940 is as strong as it’s ever been.
We are so grateful! Grateful for the trust of our clients, grateful for our incredible team, and grateful for the privilege of continuing to serve this community.
Thank you for being part of the Hanby story. Here’s to the next chapter!
